Willow's Choice Carbon Emission Offset
Apart from being the largest producer of sustainable sugarcane, Brazil's Amazon Rainforest is also responsible for over 5% of Earth's carbon absorption. As part of our eco initiatives, we have integrated automatic carbon emissions offsets into our deliveries. This makes every Willow's Choice delivery to you completely carbon neutral and that much greener. This is made possible through our partnership with Shopify and Pachama who ensure our emission offsets are directly invested in the Jari Pará Forest Conservation Project.
The Jari Pará project is certified by Verra/VCS and is anticipated to prevent over 15M tons of Co2 that would have otherwise been emitted.
What are carbon offsets?
A carbon offset reduces the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere so the increased greenhouse gases (in this case from shipping your Willow's Choice purchase to you) have a net impact of zero. For example, if a truck releases 150 g of CO2 in one mile, taking actions to preserve a forest remove an equal 150 g of CO2 per mile from the atmosphere will offset the carbon emissions from that shipment.
Are offsets the perfect solution for mitigating emissions?
No. Carbon offsets alone won’t solve the problem of global warming. Not by a long shot. We’re not saving the planet by investing in them, but we are reducing the amount of overall carbon that we’re emitting, and if a bunch more people did that too, it would make climate goals a whole lot easier to achieve. Also, the reality is that going carbon neutral today is not possible without the use of offsets for most small businesses like ours. In this way, carbon offsetting enables us (and you) to take immediate, impactful action on climate change.
Is there anything needed from me for Willow's Choice to offset my shipment?
No! We will be offsetting carbon emissions for every order shipped automatically!
What does Pachama do?
Pachama uses a algorithm-based monitoring technology to analyze satellite images of forests to provide accurate estimations of carbon storage and capture to provide additional verification.
What is the Jari Pará Forest Conservation Project?
The Jarí Para REDD+ Avoided Unplanned Deforestation project is a Verified Carbon Standard certified project. Our funds will go towards protecting the existing forest, improving the biomass through better forest management practices, and verifying the progress of the project.
